| June 9, 2007 - Today we had a leisurely morning for what seems like the first time on the trip. After having an easy breakfast, we left for the airport at around 9 a.m. Lima was quite a disappointment though. It was dreary (the weather was cloudy) and the city was rundown, smoggy, and a bit too dirty and industrial for our taste. The beaches of Lima offered for me the time in my lifetime where a beach did not appeal to me at all. We had some down time between arriving at a local hotel meeting point and taking a city tour. Grace and I would take the opportunity to have Chinese food for lunch at a local restaurant. It was quite an experience. It was the first time we had difficult ordering Chinese and the first time we had to order Chinese in Spanish! The food was nevertheless quite good. We ordered some type of stir fry vegetable with meat and some type of fried rice. Afterwards, we had a city tour of the city, stopping briefly at the City's main square and visiting a Pre-Columbian museum. Then we had a buffet dinner at the hotel before being dumped at the airport. As it turned out, the flight to LAX for four of us (Jo, Aimee, Grace and I) would be delayed some 5+ hours. Aimee, Grace and I couldn't believe this, especially considering how our LAN Peru flight from LAX was delayed 10 hours at the start of our trip. Instead of leaving at midnight or so, our flight would not leave until 5:30 a.m. Grace and I slept most of the time while waiting in the airport and during the 8+ hour flight back to Los Angeles. Despite the hassles of travel, what a beautiful trip we had on the Inca Trail and in the Andean Mountains.... Grace and I feel so lucky and privileged to have taken this trip for our honeymoon. |
